11.83 ac Residential and Recreational Land for Sale in Craven County NC! If you have been looking for the perfect size hobby farm, or Residential/Recreational property to build your homestead then this tract is right for you. Located off old Hwy 70 in Cove City, this property is just a few minutes away from New Bern and Kinston, but tucked away in the quiet community of Cove City, NC. The property consists of 6 acres of open land up front, and over 300' of road frontage on Old Hwy 70. The rear of the tract has just under 6 acres of mature woods land. This is the perfect set up, enough room for the home and outbuildings out front and plenty of room to hang a stand a or two for some deer hunting this fall or a ground blind to bag Ole Tom, next spring. A little about the area ....The nearby Croatan National Forest, is one of four National Forests in North Carolina and the only true coastal forest in the East. The Croatan National Forest's 160,000 acres have pine forests, saltwater estuaries, bogs and raised swamps called pocosins. Bordered on three sides by tidal rivers and the Bogue Sound, the forest is defined by water. All this water provides a variety of recreation and diversity of wildlife- from deer, black bears and turkeys to wading birds, ospreys and alligators. Canoeing and fishing are popular on blackwater creeks and saltwater marshes. The Hofmann Forest is also located nearby and is a major project of the Forestry School of North Carolina State University, encompassing nearly 80,000 contiguous acres. The North Carolina Forestry Foundation purchased the property in Onslow County to serve as a field laboratory for forest studies. The site reflects a wide mix of the features seen primarily in Eastern North Carolina geography. The forest is situated on what was historically referred to as the White Oak Pocosin. ''Pocosin'' is an Algonquin Indian word for ''swamp on a hill'' and aptly describes the character of this wetland forest.
